We have determined that we have a bit of a problem around here at FRC. We are definetly OCD about trying new varieties. I mean really, when is the madness going to stop. We only have 1200 sq ft here. Where are the beans going to go?

Galapagos Islands-Apr 07
Hacienda El Cafetal Plantation This old bourbon coffee is organic and shade grown. Cultivated in the volcanic mountains of the Galapagos Islands of Ecuador where the lands have remained unchanged by time. This of the rarest coffees available anywhere production is very limited. Check Out www.galapagoscoffee.com

Thai Arabica-Apr 07
We just got in this new Arabica Varietal and are dying to try it...We will keep you posted and this board...We love the Asian coffees.

Conventional Harrar-Apr 07
It has been very difficult to source Fair Trade Organic Harrar. We have been forced to purchase conventional. We love the Oromia Crowers Co-Op coffee and have made a big lock in of their inventories for the upcoming year.

The new Harrar has the classic Harrar taste but more pronounced darker character. Although excellent black it would be of particualr interest to people who use it with milk or cream. It has grown on me, but we still will continue to support and respect Tadesse and the Co-op.

Looking for varietals or know where we can get them?
Drop us a note.

Dave,

my parents live in China and I'm wondering why China does not have any coffee production...at least I've never seen any. They must have proper climate somewhere in the country.

HI Jude,

China is currently growing coffee and has been since around the 1950's. The coffee plantations are mainly centered in the western part of the Yunnan province.

Chinese coffee is most often shipped to Asian and Russian customers and much of it is processed for instant coffee. There is a new gourmet fringe starting with cultivators using modern growing techniques.

With the world coffee supply tightening many of these countries are coming more onto mainstream as the traditional growers and countries can not meet demand. The Thai arabica we just received is an example of this. So you can look forward to more and more unusual coffees from not your common sources coming to a coffee shop near you.

Ask your parents if they have an opportunity to acquire some green unroasted chinese beans, we would love an opportunity to roast and cup them.

Regards Dave

Hi Everyone,

Couple new varieties to tell you about...

Papau New Guinea Fair Trade Organic

Papua New Guinea's coffee plants, produced on small, carefully tended plantations within the rainforest, are in fact transplants from Jamaica's famous Blue Mountain coffee estates. Papua New Guinea coffee is renowned for its soft richness, sweet acidic flavor and mild, medium body.
This beauty we roasted a couple of different ways and we decided that we liked it best as a dark roast.

Bolivia Fair Trade Organic

Bolivia produces quite little coffee given its excellent growing areas high in the Andes. Coffees are generally picked and processed at the farm before making the long drive to La Paz at 12,500ft. A deep cacao sweet berry richness on this dark roast.

Thats it for now but stay tuned for a possible shipment of Haitian Blue, sounds incredibly interesting, details to follow.

Cheers
Patrick

New last week is Haitian Blue Fair Trade. Firt taste blew us out of the water. Immediately ordered 10 more bags. Roasted fairly dark with beautiful effervescence. A must try for both medium and dark lovers.

See our note in the topic, "Interesting visits from people with coffee" to find out how these showed up on our doorstep:

Here are two more new varieties (one may be short lived)

*Jamaican Blue Mountain Peaberry-One of the rarest coffees on earth. Not very highly sorted but awesome sweet blue mountain taste definitely a heavier coffee than our regular JBM listing *only 12 lbs available

*Coexcafe South Minas Gerais Brazil. One of the finest Brazilians available and purchased directly from the co-operative. If you have not tried Brazilian coffee it is incredible. An essential for the espresso lover, smooth and rich as a drip brew.

This just in. Next week we will be recieving two brand new coffees for us here at FRC. The first is one that I have been asked for many times. A full bag of Cuban beans! The other is even rarer a coffee grown in the Himalaya's in Nepal. We are very excited and these should be available next Thursday after we are done testing.
